Modularity and safety through design

The Monolith design revolutionizes the portfolio of Liebherr gear cutting machines and stands for fast and easy machine monitoring. The LC 280 gear hobbing machine was chosen as the lead machine. Besides the clear and tidy look & feel, the aim of the development was a modular and maintenance-friendly design.

Modular design

The challenge in this project was to create a solid and uniform design language for the entire portfolio, which would work for all modular machine components. One of the requirements for us was the safe, simple and fast adaptation of new peripheral devices such as various conveyor systems or external automation solutions.

The advantages of the Monolith design

Low
noise

The housing of the hydraulics continuously reduces the noise of the hydraulic unit.

Increased safety

The safety switches have been moved inwards from the cover of the machine.

User-friendly
operating

All necessary maintenance accesses are equipped with partially transparent doors and the operator can immediately read the control lamps from the outside.

Good UX

With its clearly structured and self-contained machine cover, the Monolith design stands for good visibility, accessibility and maintainability. An ergonomic usability study ensured that the machine is geared to the needs of the operators and supports an efficient work process.
