The world’s most burning problem today
A solution inspired by nature and created for an eco-friendly future
We have been approached by OBRIST Engineering to collaborate on the project C-Transformer jointly with other professionals in the fields of construction, film and design. A solution that will combine many different technologies and navigate through our forests. A solution inspired by nature and created for nature to overcome what our planet cannot manage by itself anymore: CO2 produced by humans.
We have been approached by OBRIST Engineering to collaborate on the project C-Transformer jointly with other professionals in the fields of construction, film and design. The challenge was to develop and design a solution inspired by nature and created for nature to tackle what our planet cannot manage by itself anymore. We humans have produced carbon dioxide that cannot be bound only by nature itself: CO2 produced by humans. Bionic served as source of inspiration for the development of the C-Transformer paving its way through the forest properly without harming the flora and fauna, which was an extra challenge.
The solution is right here in front of us. Our trees remove CO2 from the atmosphere every day. They have been splitting CO2 into oxygen and carbon for millions of years. Oxygen gets released back into the atmosphere and gives us clean air to breathe, while carbon gets stored in the trunk. However, the full lifespan of a tree is almost CO2 neutral. The OBRIST C-Transformer will harvest old grown trees and transform them into biochar. By working this biochar into the ground together with fresh tree seeds, a great basis for immediate reforestation will be created. Young trees will not be affected and would continue to grow unhindered. The conception of the C-Transformer is based upon ambitious technological functions which should have been transported by an innovative and futuristic design language.
Before a tree dies and releases its carbon into the atmosphere, the OBRIST C-Transformer will turn its runk into biochar and introduce it into the forest ground. In this manner, the carbon that has been stored inside the tree will improve soil fertility and the release of carbon back into our atmosphere is prevented. This is how the OBRIST C-Transformer could change an almost CO2 neutral forest into a CO2 reducing forest. In order to enable the realization of this eco-friendly project and support the crowdfunding following new design benefits have been worked out: visualization of features based on bionic principles, especially the head of the machine (harvest unit) and the back of the C-Transformer (plant unit) and a formal integration of various modules.
