WE Are digital

The great potential of digitalization, of artificial intelligence and of the possible consequences on society are a daily challenge for business decision makers. The amalgamation of technologies and the making of cyber-physical systems offer the potential to create all-new types of services, products and business areas, culminating in so-called neo-industries. User Experience Design creates added value and it’s not only about screen oriented User Interface Design, as it is mistaken by a lot of people. Today products and services are no longer separable. And so are the physical and the digital. As a true User Experience Design firm, we understand what it means to be digital, and this means to understand that digital is so much more than designing screens, pixels, icons or interface. Companies, however, need to investigate how they can fully max out the potential of digitalization.

The differentiation towards competitors will, in the future, not be influenced through price or quality, but by a created user experience with a particular product, system or service. User Experience Design is based on human needs, caters towards economic rentability and shows the possibilities of using current or emerging technologies. The objective is to generate the perfect user experience. Doing this, the real expectations of an user will not only be investigated and met, they will be exceeded. The service will be optimized using the analyzed customer needs and putting into consideration all touchpoints of a specific brand. This method is used along the whole process chain and inhouse; it shows a great potential to optimize return of investment (ROI). UNIfying digital AND PHYSICAL

It is very rare, or probably impossible to design digital experiences without acknowledging the physical touchpoints or context. Likewise, it is increasingly difficult to design any products that are completely digital free. We have lately experienced that more and more digital services experts are trying to jump on the user experience bandwagon and struggle to unite the digital and physical world. Are they still too digital focused? In order to create truly amazing user experiences  we need to know how to get the best out of the physical, invisible and the digital worlds. That is why we work constantly back and forth with the many different expertise and disciplines such as UX Design, Interaction Design, Engineering, Service Design, Ergonomic and Industrial Design to develop the best solutions with our partners.  As one of the very few true User Experience Design firms, we have to be able to fully understand the digital, physical and invisible world. This is where Schindler Creations,  has focused on.

Ui, UX, CX?

For us to be digital is to understand the complete digital landscape, and currently there are so many titles and terminologies that people have different ideas about what digital design is all about. User Experience Design (UX) works holistically to understand and design all the touchpoints between a company and its customers. This naturally involves not just digital but analogue touchpoints. However true user experience doesn’t ignore physical or analogue solutions for the sake of being Digital. It also doesn’t ignore the intangible or invisible factors that people experience daily. Our User Experience Designers work closely together with branches of economy, engineering and computer science, this being the only chance to fully include the existent know how into the Design Thinking or how we call it Design Doing process. While product and systems development companies in the Silicon Valley have applied user-centered methods for years, some clarification needs to be made in Europe. CX or Customer Experience Design is not a term we particularly use at Schindler Creations as it falls into our Service Design and UX understanding.

UI Design IS NOT ENOUGH

UI or User Interface Design is where we get into the really digital bread and butter. It’s what most people think digital design is about, it deals with pixel perfect designs of digital interfaces, its usability and look and feel. However, even UI designers need to consider the physical reality of their screens. The ones who only stay digital don’t see the big picture. From the size of the device, the context in which they would be using the device and all the other factors that exist only in the physical world that will impact how they interact with these pixel perfect screens. The image of the ketchup bottles sums it up very well: Every product or service has a user interface. But it’s not enough to design the interface, we need to focus on the best user experience. For the ketchup fan the newer designed bottle has a better user experience because it addresses the problem of ketchup being stuck in the bottle. Using the upside-down ketchup bottle for a while brings up a further problem: ketchup is building up in the lid because of the pressure. Usability is thus the perception of the consumer when using the newer designed ketchup bottle. This feedback is essential when optimizing the user’s experience with a product or service. At Schindler Creations we know that UI Design is not enough. Closely together with our partners we are developing true and holistic user experiences, considering UI as well as Usability.
