Experience Design is mainstream
The shift from a technology focus to a human focus is already in full progress. User and customer experience is mainstream. According to the CX industry report published in early 2018, 77% of businesses put more focus on experience design than in the previous year, while only 5% reduced their focus on design. With a score of 86%, the focus on design in organisations with more than 5000 employees was particularly high.
So, there is a lot to do. At Schindler Creations, we are aware that design is more than just a pretty product or a fancy interface. We design processes, products and services according to our partners’ needs and help them direct their business strategy at the human being. We use new and disruptive technologies a well as strategic design methods to create outstanding experiences. We always think outside the box and take the entire ecosystem into consideration in order to enable our partners to grow and transform.
Knowledge facilitates intelligence
Research in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) has been going on for decades, and is somehow still in its infancy. Yet in the last few years, one particularly promising branch appeared to be flourishing. Machine learning is now the key to feed knowledge to computers and thereby create artificial intelligence. Earlier approaches in the field of AI research were nowhere near as successful.
Yoshua Bengio, Canadian computer scientist and co-founder of ELEMENT AI, provider of AI-solutions, has an explanation. “As human beings we have intuitive knowledge, which is also known as perceived intelligence. Every infant knows what will happen when it drops a ball on the floor, without knowing the laws of physics. A computer program doesn’t. As humans, we cannot teach intuitive knowledge to machines- but they can learn it themselves”
Software that learns to learn
The data processing method called deep learning is part of a broader family of machine learning methods. Inspired by learning functions in the human brain, deep learning uses a neuronal network and vast amounts of data to create forecasts and enable decision-making. Simply put, the machine is capable of improving its skills independently.
Deep learning is already applied to countless industrial fields such as robotics, mechanical engineering, technology, vehicle safety, medical diagnostics or voice recognition and text-to-speech technology. Famous present examples are Siri or Alexa. Hence we know, there is still a long way to go. Nonetheless, the potential of this technology is huge.
In March 2016, the computer program AlphaGo, which is applying the deep learning method, achieved victory against the Go world champion. Go, a strategical board game from China is known to be even more challenging than chess. A breakthrough for AI, but yet we are only scratching the surface.
Top Technology Trend
Brian Hopkins, VP and analyst at Forrester has looked at over 50 upcoming technologies for his Top Technology Trends report. Like others, he is convinced that the top trend for the next three years is software that can learn to learn. The most important technologies to him are: artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning.
But what exactly makes a trend a top trend? If a software can teach itself its own skills, which previously had to be done by programming, the primary consequence is that we require a lot less software programming. Machines are capable of creating forecasts, making their own decisions and even questioning them. According to Hopkins, this development has such an enormous influence on our society, that people are already talking about a new industrial revolution.
The power of technology
We create the world of tomorrow today. New technologies induce change and already have the potential to substitute humans in many fields. What is seen as a threat by the critics of AI, is understood as an opportunity by others.

One thing is clear, we have to become aware of our responsibility so that “AI for president” will not turn into reality. In the Copenhagen letter, a manifesto signed by many bright minds and founders of IT- or design companies, it is written:

We live in a world where technology is consuming society, ethics, and our core existence. It is time to take responsibility for the world we are creating. Time to put humans before business. Time to replace the empty rhetoric of “building a better world” with a commitment to real action. It is time to organize, and to hold each other accountable.”
